INMETRO is the Brazilian regulatory body. It requires manufacturers and suppliers to have their products tested and certified by a recognized certification body, which then applies its own brand and also the INMETRO seal of approval. INMETRO covers many consumer and industrial products, including electrical and medical devices, appliances, toys, automotive components, tires and wheels.

INMETRO, the Brazilian accreditation body, is responsible for the accreditation of each product certification body (EC). In addition, INMETRO defines the products and the respective requirements within each respective certification scheme. Products manufactured in Brazil or exported to that country need a certificate issued by CB, stating that the product meets Brazilian requirements.
